Willow Smith shared an informative video on her Instagram to educate others on what happened to Breonna Taylor and ways that we can help initiate change.

The video was created by the social justice organization Until Freedom, which aims to alleviate cyclical poverty, inequality, and state violence. Smith begins the video by asking the question, “Do you know what happened to Breonna Taylor?” before Tamika Palmer, Taylor’s mother, recounts how her daughter was murdered. Other public figures, including Alicia Keys, Linda Sarsour, and Rapsody, have also posted themselves asking this question alongside the video to their respective Instagrams.

On the day of Taylor’s murder, Louisville Metro Police Department was looking for two individuals who, ironically, were already in police custody. Sergeant Jonathan Mattingly, Detective Brett Hankison, and Detective Myles Cosgrove forcefully entered into Taylor’s home on March 13 without making their presence known. They fired 22 times, hitting Taylor eight times.

“Breonna should not be dead,” said Palmer. “Somedays I feel like I can’t breathe without her. This should never happen to another family. I am Breonna Taylor’s mother. Say her name.”

Tamika Mallory, a co-founder of Until Freedom, then discusses ways that everyone can seek justice for Taylor.

“Now that we know what happened to Breonna Taylor, it is time for us to act and to get justice for her and her family,” states Mallory. “There are a few things that you can do, no matter where you are in this country.”

These include calling Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer at (502) 574-2003 to demand he fire the officers who murdered Taylor, calling Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron at (502) 696-5300 to demand he charges the officers who murdered Taylor, and calling Interim Police Chief Robert Schroeder at (502) 574-7111 to demand he complete the investigation immediately and turn it over to Breonna’s lawyers and the Attorney General.

“Louisville residents, the power is in your hands,” Mallory says in a powerful call to action. “Breonna Taylor’s family has said that they are not just fighting for her, but they are fighting to ensure that what happened to Breonna never happens again. There’s a vote in your town this week. Call your council members, and let them know that you demand that they vote to ban no-knock warrants.”
