John Cena Matches a Million With BTS
The BTS Army’s Matched a Million initiative has taken over Twitter and has won over another celebrity.
WWE champion John Cena tweeted that he will be donating $1 million in support of Black Lives Matter. His decision to do so was inspired by the K-Pop supergroup BTS, who donated $1 million of their own money to Black Lives Matter.
Very happy to join #BTSARMY in efforts to match @BTS_twt tremendous donation #ARMYMatch1M

Their donation was then matched by their fans (the BTS Army) through the internet-wide #MatchedAMillon campaign. In a subsequent tweet, Cena cited the great initiative of BTS and their fans as “one of the many reasons I [John] respect BTS.”
One of the many reasons I respect @BTS_twt and #ARMY #ARMYMatch1M #ArmyMatchedForBLM thank you #BTS and #BTSARMY https://t.co/2XpaHR6mFP

Though BTS and their fanbase may have inspired Cena, Black Lives Matter is a cause close to his heart. Cena issued the following statement days before announcing his donation:
Change is always possible. A major catalyst to change is facing uncomfortable truths, leaning into them and realizing that tremendous effort is needed on a consistent and dedicated basis with the goal of improvement.

John Cena has long been an advocate for equal rights. In 2016, Cena teamed up with Love Has No Labels in support of their the “We Are America” campaign. The result of this collaboration was a powerful PSA, which challenged traditional notions of patriotism.
We are glad to see Cena continuing to celebrate, promote, and fight for a more diverse America.
