YouTube Pledges $100 Million to Fund Black Creators on the Platform
YouTube CEO, Susan Wojcicki, announces its pledge to donate a multi-year $100 million fund to help support Black creators on the video platform.
YouTube has previously experienced hate and harassment on the site, but their steps to fix the problem are not enough. The video platform knows that more work needs to be done in order to ensure that Black creators feel safe and have the freedom to share their videos without receiving white supremacist and bullying content.
Wojcicki and the YouTube staff are listening to the concerns of its creators and know that they need to do more to help out their Black community.
With the help from this $100 million fund, their first project will be titled Bear Witness, Take Action. Hosted by Keke Palmer and Common, this 90-minute special will feature creators, artists, activists and musical performances. Donations will be gathered as well to help benefit the Equal Justice Initiative.
This new special will premiere on Saturday, June 13, 2020, at 3 p.m. PT. Clear some time in your day and check it out to help support a cause that needs attention now more than ever.
The deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many others have forced us to bear witness to systemic racism in America. As we take action against injustice, we also need to stop and listen. #BearWitnessTakeAction June 13th → https://t.co/8Y7CtQhGdF pic.twitter.com/ZMqRMASEm0

Wojcicki is committed to making a difference on the YouTube site. She is listening, learning, understanding and working on advancing the platform to benefit all creators and viewers.
YouTube is continuously improving its site to help eliminate as much hateful, white supremacist and bullying content as possible. We hope YouTube’s new plan of action will spark initiative not only on their site but in the world as well to help end racial injustice.
Hi! I am Hannah Forton pursuing a double major in Communications and Music Industry. I love traveling, sports, cooking, music, Broadway, movies, DIY, make-up, clothes, and tutorials. Some of my favorite work experiences includes an internship at a recording studio and working at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Helping and educating others is important to me, and I’ve enjoyed being able to do so through volunteering for numerous non-profits since middle school. I like the big city vibes, but small towns will always hold a special place in my heart. Living near Detroit allows me to achieve the best of both worlds.
