Bon Appétit’s Claire Saffitz Apologizes for Allowing Racism and Toxicity to Grow Within Company
Saffitz is taking a stand and speaking out about her complicity in maintaining a hostile work environment in the Test Kitchen.
Claire Saffitz, host of Gourmet Makes and a chef on Bon Appétit’s popular segment Test Kitchen, is acknowledging the role she says she played in allowing the company’s office to become a “toxic, racist, secretive and ultra-competitive environment.”
On Thursday June 11, Saffitz took to Instagram to share a message with her fans. In her post, she spoke out about the alleged incidents that took place in Test Kitchen videos and behind closed doors of the Condé Nast publication. She also took the time to apologize to co-workers like Sohla El-Waylly for not advocating for fair wages earlier.

Bon Appétit had released their own apology to their Black staff and the Black community as a whole the previous day, vowing to be committed to change while also describing what those changes might look like moving forward.

As of now, Claire is one of the few white staff members from the Test Kitchen to address the numerous claims of racial inequality and discrimination at Bon Appétit.
We are proud to see her speaking out about this important issue and we hope to see more of her co-workers begin to do the same.
