Estee Lauder Boosts Donation to $10 Million for the NAACP, Plans to Hire More Black Employees

After much discussion of Estee Lauder’s low rates of Black employees, the company made an updated statement, promising to hire more Black talent. Executive chairman William Lauder, and president and CEO Fabrizio Freda, stated, “We have all taken time recently to grapple with the systemic racial injustice that has plagued the United States for far too long. We also recognize that we have much more work to do in order to accomplish greater results.”

Executive Chairman William Lauder and Chief Executive Officer Fabrizio Freda wrote in addition in the memo, “Some of these actions will be immediate, others will take some time, but all will be impactful.”

As part of the company’s promise, they pledged to increase their donation from $1 million to $10 million over three years, for the NAACP and other such justice organizations. The company’s message comes a week after 100 employees penned a petition letter to the chairman requesting to remove family heir and board member Ronald Lauder for his support of President Donald Trump. Lauder had previously donated at least $1.6 million to pro-Trump organizations.

Clearly, the Black Matters Movement has affected more than just legislation; it demands that popular beauty companies become more aware and improve on their staff and talent. Follow this link for donations, petitions, peaceful protest locations, and more.
