Starbucks is Now Allowing its Baristas to Wear Black Lives Matter Attire
Previously, Starbucks had a policy where its baristas could not wear Black Lives Matter attire or accessories.
Management explained that they “did not want such attire or items to be misunderstood and be the cause for violence to erupt.” However, they were faced with increased pressure after followers on social media started calling for boycotts of the company, resulting in them reversing their previous policy.
Starbucks has always had a policy where its workers were forbidden from wearing any personal, political, or religious attire and accessories. However, workers have mentioned that Starbucks occasionally hands its customers buttons and attire in celebration of LGBTQ rights. Starbucks is going to start doing the same thing for the Black Lives Matter movement. The company has announced that it will be making 250,000 shirts with a ‘Black Lives Matter’ and ‘No Justice, No Peace’ design for its workers in the United States and Canada.
Until all of the shirts arrive, employees can choose to wear their own attire and accessories to display their support for the Black Lives Matter movement. While some are commending Starbucks for changing their policy, many are posting online that it’s too late and they will continue to boycott the brand for its initial ban.
