Beyoncé Writes Open Letter Demanding Charges for Breonna Taylor Case
Beyoncé-Knowles-Carter has written an open letter to General Daniel Cameron calling for justice for Breonna Taylor.
Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old Black ER technician, was shot at least eight times by police officers who forced their way into her Louisville apartment just after midnight on March 13, 2020. Since Breonna’s senseless death, she has been mourned across the country. Protesters all over are demanding justice for Breonna. Petitions, fundraisers, and protests have been created in support of Breonna and her family.
‘Queen-B’ has been actively posting on social media about the Black Lives Matter movement linking petitions for Breonna.
However, she did not stop there. She decided to take matters into her own hands and penned an open letter in which she posted on her website.
“Three months have passed – and zero arrests have been made and no officers have been fired. The [Louisville Metro Police Department’s] investigation was turned over to your office, and yet all of the officers involved in the shooting remain employed by the LMPD. Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, and Officers Myles Cosgrove and Brett Hankison must be held accountable for their actions,” the singer wrote.
Beyoncé expressed that the Louisville Metro Police Department has the “power” and “responsibility” to give Breonna the righteousness she deserves.
She added three specific demands to the Attorney General that she believes will end this pattern of police brutality. She urges that criminal charges will be brought up against the three officers involved, that he would commit to transparency in the investigation as well as consider prosecution of the officers, and investigate LMPD’s response to what she called “Breonna Taylor’s murder”.

As Beyoncé stated, “With every death of a Black person at the hands of the police, there are two real tragedies: the death itself and the inaction and delays that follow it.”
“This is your chance to end that pattern. Take swift and decisive action in charging the officers. The next months cannot look like the last three.”
After three months of fighting for Breonna, a no-knock warrant/raid law was passed in Louisville, Kentucky. Today marks day 94 of no justice for Breonna.
