See What Whoopi Goldberg Has to Say About Tackling Systemic Racism

ABC/ Lou Rocco

The Oscar Winner and The View co-host shares the first steps that American society needs to take in order to create permanent change.

This past Sunday June 14, Whoopi Goldberg appeared on Watch What Happens Live, where she was asked about tackling systemic racism in America.

“Well, racism is in the heart of the country,” Goldberg told host Andy Cohen. “You can’t get away from it, children are taught it without realizing that that’s what they’re learning. So, the first thing that has to happen is people have to first look at people and see them for who they are, not for who they fear they are, but for who they actually are.”

Goldberg went on to say that society as a whole needs to acknowledge that there is “a problem” before taking steps forward. “Everybody has to say, ‘Yes, there is a problem and we see it and we want to fix it,'” Goldberg told Cohen and fellow guest Rita Moreno.

Watch What Happens Live took to Instagram early on in the Black Lives Matter movement to announce their allyship. They stated their commitment to standing in solidarity with the Black community and their vow to demand change and accountability on behalf of their Black staff and viewers.
