Take a Look at the Oscars New Diversity Plan
The academy has announced a new phase in its plan to ensure equity and diversity.
Five years after the #OscarsSoWhite movement, initiated by Black actors and actresses to denounce the lack of diversity within the academy, the board has come up with a new phase. The academy aims “to develop and implement new representation and inclusion standard for Oscars eligibility by July 2020.” The new phase is called “Academy Aperture 2025,” and will increase the number of women and Black people in the committee board.

Dawn Hudson, CEO of the Academy, stressed the urgency of this issue, saying that more voices need to be heard.
The Academy has had trouble being diverse throughout its history. This is a step in the right direction, but they need to do more by reflecting on current events.
