RuPaul’s Shangela Is a Queen of Fundraising With New Charity Cause
The death-dropping drag queen Shangela has announced a new charity drive to fight hunger in the drag community.
Unveiling the new initiative called Feed the Queens, the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 2 (and 3) star took to Instagram to share her aim of supporting queens who have been facing financial struggles with the closure of performance venues as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Shangela explained that some queens face a lack of resources. Queens can come from many different backgrounds, and some of those backgrounds do not have equal access to necessities.
The urgency behind the fundraising can’t be understated as countless queens remain without a source of income. But Shangela stressed that a few small steps could go a long way. Galvanizing support, the queen has partnered with The Actors Fund to ensure a portion of the money raised goes to performers from Black communities. Also lending their platforms to the cause are Bob The Drag Queen, Eureka O’Hara, and Frankie Grande, who will make up the stellar cast of an upcoming online benefit extravaganza.
I know what it’s like to struggle as a drag entertainer. And now with unemployment at an all time high, and live shows in bars shut down for the past 3 months, I know my drag community is hurting. Help me help us. Xo https://t.co/JUaRwsxCgf https://t.co/N4xOwtdges

With June being Pride month, it’s time to show some extra love for those who may be in the LGBTQ+ community. Feed the Queens is just one of many worthy causes you can get behind to make sure drag queens aren’t forgotten in these uncertain times.
