Don’t Miss the First Look at ‘Zack Snyder’s Justice League’
Currently scheduled to be released in 2021, fans finally got to see a glimpse of the famous director’s cut of 2017’s Justice League.
You might be asking yourself: Why is Justice League being released a second time? Back in 2017, Justice League arrived in theaters, receiving mixed reviews by critics (it currently scores a lackluster 40% on Rotten Tomatoes). However, fans were not content with it, especially because they believed they hadn’t seen the original project designed by director Zack Snyder.
At the time, Snyder had directed Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also organized the main story arc for the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), or the shared cinematic universe involving heroes from DC Comics. Although he directed Justice League, he left the project during post-production because of personal family problems. Joss Whedon, who directed The Avengers, took over the film and vastly changed it.
After the original film’s release, fans demanded that Snyder’s original vision—nicknamed the “Snyder Cut”—be released. Despite having no evidence that such a cut even existed, they created the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut petition, which became wildly popular and was even supported by some of the Justice League‘s cast members.

In 2019, however, the Snyder Cut evolved from mere fantasy to reality, with the man himself confirming that the movie did indeed exist. A couple of months later, in May 2020, Snyder shared that it would finally be released as Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max.

Not much is known about Zack Snyder’s Justice League at the moment. The film will be released at some point in 2021, but it is unclear whether it will be broken down into episodes or released as a full-length four-hour-long movie.

On June 18, HBO Max released a glimpse of what’s to come, sharing a teaser on YouTube. The video features Wonder Woman, played by Gal Gadot, in a mysterious dark room. As she looks at a mural, the image fades to reveal Darkseid, a new villain who hadn’t appeared in the 2017 version.
“The bell’s already been rung, and they’ve heard it,” Lex Luthor, played by Jesse Eisenberg, warns in a voice-over. “But in the dark, among the stars, ding dong, the God is dead.”
