The 18-year-old burn victim has just shared her story, and you need to hear what she has to say.

On Wednesday, Althea Bernstein was driving to her brother’s friend’s home around 1 a.m. in Madison, Wisconsin when she approached a red light. She was listening to music and driving with her window down when she heard someone call her the n-word.

According to the police report, Bernstein turned and saw four white men in another car. One of them sprayed a liquid that landed on her face and neck and tossed a flaming lighter at her, lighting her face on fire, she told investigators.

After the attack, Bernstein drove to her mother’s home and went to a local hospital to be treated for both second- and third-degree burns. She is currently back home and healing from the tragic incident.

People around the world who have heard Bernstein’s story have already taken to social media to spread awareness of what happened and have started circulating petitions. In addition, the FBI has now joined the investigation

Our hearts go out to Bernstein, her family, and the entire Black community. We stand with you.
