Beyoncè Received the Humanitarian Award at the 2020 BET Awards
On Sunday, June 28th, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter received the Humanitarian Award at the BET Awards.
The network’s 20th annual awards ceremony aired virtually at 8 pm ET on BET and CBS. Beyoncé was awarded for her charitable work through her BeyGOOD initiative and much more.
“In 2017, as a part of her BeyGOOD initiative, Beyoncé established Formation Scholars to encourage and support young women who are unafraid to think outside the box and are bold, creative, conscious and confident… The scholarship awarded students from four colleges,” said BET.
Their statement goes on: “That year, she partnered with UNICEF to create BeyGood4Burundi. This multi-year partnership was established to bring safe water and sanitation to the small, landlocked East African country of Burundi. In 2018, she created the Homecoming Scholars Award Program, following her historic performance at Coachella, which benefited students at eight HBCUs.”
Beyoncé’s latest acts of kindness took place last month when she and her mother (Tina-Knowles) supported their hometown community in Houston, Texas by launching a mobile COVID-19 testing campaign. The Testing Relief Campaign offered free testing, face masks, gloves, gift cards, food vouchers, and essential vitamins.
The beloved singer did not stop there, as Queen Bey went on to celebrate Juneteenth by releasing the single “Black Parade.” The singer announced her intention to use BeyGOOD’S Black Business Fund to support Black-owned businesses.
BET revealed this exciting news shortly after Beyoncé penned an open letter to Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron, calling for justice for Breonna Taylor.
BET announced that “The 2020 “BET Awards” will feature performances by Alicia Keys, Black Thought, Chloe X Halle, DaBaby, D Smoke, Jay Rock, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Jonathan McReynolds, Kane Brown, Karen Clark Sheard, Kierra Sheard, Lil Wayne, Megan Thee Stallion, Jahi, Nas, Public Enemy, Questlove, Rapsody, Roddy Ricch, SiR, Summer Walker, Usher, and YG, with performances by BET Amplified Artists, Masego and Lonr, who are set to take the BET Amplified Music Stage, a platform for emerging artists. “
In addition to the Humanitarian Award, the singer was also nominated for Album of the Year, Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, Best Movie, and the BET HER Award.
