Country Trio The Dixie Chicks Change Their Band Name and Release New Single
Following Lady A’s name change, The Dixie Chicks are now taking action and changing their name to The Chicks.
From calling out discriminatory logos to holding companies accountable for lack of diversity, the Black Lives Matter movement is consistently fighting for change. On Thursday, The Dixie Chicks changed their name on all social media platforms stating that they “want to meet this moment.”
The band has faced criticism in the past by using the name. If you are not familiar with the word “Dixie,” it is associated with American slavery during the civil war era. Dixie references the Mason-Dixon-line, which separated the free states from the southern slave-owning states.
Dedicated fans praised the group’s decision and are excited about the group’s comeback.

Alongside changing their name, they also released their new protest anthem “March March” and a music video paying tribute to social injustice.
The music video shows past and current public protests such as LGBTQ rights, police brutality, climate change, and racial discrimination. The video also pays tribute to Black victims who have died from police brutality and racial confrontation such as Geroge Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery.

It’s great that many country artists are speaking out about racial discrimination. People with different backgrounds need to acknowledge the issues that are happening and should continue to fight for change.
