Watch Alicia Keys Perform ‘A Perfect Way To Die’ at BET Awards 2020
At the virtual 2020 BET Awards on June 28, Alicia Keys gave a heartfelt and beautiful performance of her song, “A Perfect Way to Die.”
In her performance, Keys included portraits of Breonna Taylor and George Floyd in the background and the artist also incorporated a street that depicted dozens of painted names that belonged to unjustly murdered people. Keys did not forget to highlight Black women who died due to police brutality and racist violence, as she sang her heart-wrenching lyrics.

“A Perfect Way to Die” expresses a Black mother’s heartbreak who just lost her son because he was fatally shot. Keys sings, “A river of blood in the streets / No love in the streets / And then came silence in the city that day, they say / Just another one gone / And they tell her move on.” Keys continues, “At least you’ll stay forever young / I guess you picked the perfect way to die.” Do not forget to watch Alicia Keys’ full performance down below.

Of course, Keys is not trying to suggest that there is indeed a perfect way to die. However, she tries to bring awareness to the nature of police abuse and thousands of innocent lives being lost.
I am an incoming junior at the UCLA College of Letters and Science. I want to help those who are either the victims of the system or discrimination because I wholeheartedly believe that the purpose of my life is to help others and take cases that nobody else is willing to take.
