Netflix Drops Trailer for New Animated Musical ‘Over The Moon’

Netflix released a heartwarming trailer for their animated musical feature film, ‘Over The Moon.’

The trailer showcases Fei Fei, a young girl who dreams of flying herself to outer space to find Chang’e, the moon goddess of famous Chinese mythology. According to the myth, Chang’e is known for consuming immortality pills, which made her fly up to the moon.

Originally, the elixir of immortality was owned by her husband Houyi, a gift earned by shooting nine out of the ten suns to prevent the planet from getting burned. Saddened by the loss of Chang’e, Houyi would leave fruits and cakes outside every night until the day of his death. The legend of Chang’e eventually resulted in the Mid-Autumn Festival, a holiday still celebrated in China and other Asian countries today. The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar, when a full moon comes out at night.

In the film, Fei Fei’s parents used to tell their daughter stories of Chang’e. Years after the death of Fei Fei’s mother, Fei Fei’s father has moved on and has plans to remarry. Fei Fei is troubled by this idea and decides to build a rocket ship to fly to the moon and find Chang’e.

This film is directed by legendary Disney animator, Glen Keane, who has worked on Disney classics such as ‘The Little Mermaid, ”Aladdin,’ ‘Tarzan,’ and ‘Beauty and the Beast.’
