Alessia Cara Takes Home Multiple Awards at Canada’s ‘Juno Awards’
Alessia Cara wins big this year at the 49th Annual Juno Awards, leaving with three prestigious trophies to add to her collection.
The Juno Awards, Canada’s version of the Grammys, were held virtually this year due to the Coronavirus pandemic on June 29. Cara, who was supposed to be the host for the in-person event, would have been the second-youngest host in Juno’s history.
The 23-year-old was nominated for six awards. She won Album of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, as well as Pop Album of the Year for her sophomore album The Pains of Growing. Cara is the first female to win Songwriter of the Year since Serena Ryder took home the award six years ago.
The Canadian singer and songwriter was also among four performers who had pre-recorded live performances on the award show. Iskwé, Neon Dreams, and The Dead South were also featured performers of the digital event. The Juno Awards’ Twitter was busy keeping fans up to date with the winners.
