Lucy Hale, star of The CW television show Katy Keene, shared her reaction to the show being canceled after one season in an emotional Instagram video.

Hale described the cancellation as “heartbreaking,” revealing that she had to do multiple takes because she was so emotional. Calling Katy Keene as the “role of a lifetime” and working on the show as “one of the highlights of [her] life,” she thanked the cast and crew for their unwavering support. She encouraged fans to continue to support the show on HBO Max and emphasized that despite it not being renewed for a second season, she was very proud of the show.

“I’m so proud of what we made, and I do believe it’s timeless,” said Hale. “I think sometimes things just don’t work out, and maybe it just was not the right time for it.”

Katy Keene is a musical comedy-drama based on the Archie Comics. A spin-off of Riverdale, the series takes place five years after the events of the first four seasons of Riverdale and also stars Ashleigh Murray as singer-songwriter Josie McCoy. The show follows Katy Keene, an aspiring fashion designer, and other characters as they attempt to make it big in New York City.

“To Michael Grassi and Roberto and the cast, – you guys are just magic – thank you,” said Hale. “I cannot stress how amazing you are all the time, no matter what. You’ve just been there for me, and you’ve supported everything I’ve done.”
