Watch Halsey Dance Solo Through Her New ‘Be Kind’ Music Video

EMI Records

Halsey and Marshmello released a bright and dreamy new music video to their collaborative single “Be Kind.”

Halsey won’t let 2020 stand in her way. Despite months of social distancing and a broken ankle, the singer-songwriter has joined George Floyd protests, set up a fund for Black artists and creators, and announced her first poetry collection coming this November.

Halsey employed that same resilience to create her new “Be Kind” music video. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Halsey had to learn the choreography via FaceTime. Due to her broken ankle, she practiced the choreography in a rolling, spinning computer chair.

Halsey shared her choreography struggle in a behind-the-scenes video, giving fans a humorous glimpse into her exhaustion:

The setbacks were no match for Halsey and Marshmello. Only a week after its release on June 27, their new video had gained over 10 million views on YouTube. Check it out below:

Directed by Hannah Lux Davis, the colorful, hypnotic piece draws viewers into a springtime fantasy world. Halsey looks stunning with long, pink hair and cropped outfits that compliment the choreography. According to Rolling Stoneshe served as her own makeup artist for the production.

Though Halsey remains the focus throughout the song, Marshmello makes several subtle appearances. At the end of the video, Halsey wakes from a blissful dream to discover she’s under Marshmello’s robotic surveillance, ending the story on an unsettling note.

With so much new and upcoming work, Halsey is definitely an artist to watch. Fans around the world can’t wait to see what she creates for the rest of 2020.
