Justin Timberlake Calls for Removal of Confederate Monuments
Justin Timberlake, a Tennessee native, took to Instagram stating confederate monuments “must be taken down.”
On Monday, July 6, Justin shared his thoughts regarding the monuments in a lengthy post on Instagram.
“Let’s be clear… those men who proudly owned and abused Black people are STILL celebrated all over the country,” he said. “There are roughly 1,848 confederate statues of in the US. More than half are in The South, and it’s not acceptable. No one should be protecting the legacies of confederate leaders and slave owners.”
He later mentioned that the removal of the monuments is a “symbol of respect for Black people in America and it’s a step towards progress and actual equality for all.”
Justin ended his argument by stating “if America wants to move forward with unity, these monuments must come down.”
His post included an informative video made by the ACLU discussing the history of racism, slavery, and Confederate statues in America. Justin urged his followers to watch the video he provided and read up on the history of confederate flags/statues in order to help join the fight for the removal of these monuments.
You are amazing. Thank you for continuing to speak out on these issues and using your voice to help enact change for the better for our country.
