‘The Alienist’ Returns for a Second Season of Compelling Mysteries Sure to Have You Hooked

Kata Vermes / TNT

It may have been a long wait, but Season 2 of The Alienist: Angel of Darkness is finally set to drop later this week, and we can’t wait to unpack some more mysteries.

Season 1 drew inspiration from Caleb Carr’s novel of the same name, centering around a team of detectives following the trail of grisly crimes gripping 19th century New York. Season 2 will see Dakota Fanning resume her lead as the headstrong inspector Sara Howard as she sets up her own detective agency. It’s been billed as more of a stand-alone than a sequel, so even if the events of Season 1 are a bit blurry, you can still be sure of an absorptive trip into the past.

The latest trailer dropped last month, seeing Dakota take to the streets of smoggy New York with all the gloomy glamour of a dark Jane Austen novel. With the characters donning an array of authentic outfits and an unexpected twist teased at the end of the trailer, this could well be the quarantine series we never knew we needed but can’t help but binge.

The series also stars Luke Evans and Daniel Brühl, and with the latest episodes due to be aired this weekend, anticipation is clearly building among fans. The last series was aired back in 2018, so it’s been a long wait for many.

If you need some compelling drama this weekend, be sure to tune into Angel of Darkness. It airs Sunday, July 19th, on TNT at 8/9 PM EST.
