Justin Bieber Asks “WTF Going On?” With Justice for Breonna Taylor
Justin Bieber is not forgetting about Breonna Taylor.
Indignation over the murder of a 26-year-old African-American emergency medical technician, Breonna Taylor, rages on as there is yet to be a charge for the crime. Justin Bieber has been notorious for expressing his compassion for Black Lives Matter and raising awareness for wrongfully murdered victims such as George Floyd and Rayshard Brooks. On July 12th, 2020, Bieber posted to his Instagram asking for updates regarding Breonna Taylor’s case.
Taylor was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department officers on March 13, 2020, in the confounds of her own home. The only crumb of justice served regarding Taylor’s case was the firing of one officer on June 23rd, 2020. But the world is still waiting for the lawfulness she deserves. “She was innocently shot and killed in her own home by police,” Bieber writes. “I’m not going to forget.” And no one should.

Ever since the beginning of the protests in late May 2020, Louisville officials have banned no-knock warrants. This means that police are no longer allowed to forcibly enter people’s homes to search them without warning.

According to The New York Times, “Louisville police officers, executing a search warrant, used a battering ram to enter the apartment,” and “Ms. Taylor her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, had been in bed, but got up when they heard a loud banging at the door. After a brief exchange, Mr. Walker fired his gun. The police also fired several shots, striking Ms. Taylor.” The police claimed suspicions that drugs were being sold out of her home. Contrary to their false accusation, “No drugs were found in the apartment, a lawyer for Mr. Walker said.”
Studies show that Black people are more likely to be wrongfully convicted: “The analysis focuses on the three types of crimes for which exonerations are most common: murders, sexual assaults, and drug-related offenses.” Racism is a refuge for the ignorant and a public health issue.
