Sarah Jeffery Just Released Her New Single and Explains How ‘Descendants’ Helped Her to Do So
The Descendants Alum explains how the success of her solo hit “Queen of Mean” in the franchise’s third movie led to her very first single “Even the Stars.”
Sarah Jeffery might just be on her way to becoming the next pop sensation.
The actress first started to gain recognition for her singing when Disney dropped the music video for “Queen of Mean,” her solo song from Descendants 3, on YouTube back in August 2019. Within a little less than a year, it has racked up over 269,000,000 views on the streaming platform.
But perhaps the biggest facet of the song’s success is that it reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100—becoming the first solo track from a DCOM to chart that high since Camp Rock over a decade ago. The world of music was clearly starting to become a fan of Jeffery as a singer, and Rock Mafia, the production and songwriting team responsible for “Queen of Mean,” was too.
“I’ve always been very passionate about music,” Jeffery told E! News on the eve of the tracks’ release. “I did musical theater as a kid growing up and, obviously with the Descendants films, that was a big part of it. And so it has always been, in my mind, that that’s something I wanted to pursue. But it actually kind of worked out perfectly. Rock Mafia, who wrote ‘Queen of Mean’ and wrote a surplus of songs for descendants and other DCOMs, they approached me and, [after] the success of ‘Queen of Mean,’ were like, ‘We would love to work with you again.’ And it just made sense to me.”
After the music video was released on Friday, Sarah took to her Instagram to promote the song as well as thank her director, the crew, and Rock Mafia for all the work they did on her “special project.”
Even though the video dropped just four days ago, fans have already taken to Twitter to express their love for the song.
The video is so magical, so beautiful, so incredible, so powerful. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me this melody so beautiful and significant, loves you forever and ever: Lili. #EVENTHESTARS @sarahjeffery pic.twitter.com/y0eU7n0qxY
