Produced by Transformers director, Michael Bay, the film began production last week.

Set two years after the start of a pandemic, Songbird, features a familiar world where cities are in lockdown. In the midst of all this, Nico (played by KJ Apa), a motorbike courier with rare immunity, falls in love with Sara (Sofia Carson), a talented young artist. However, to be together, the two will have to fight against the law, vigilantes and powerful families—all of which will do anything to tear the lovers apart.

The movie already had a star-filled cast, including Demi Moore, Jenny Ortega, Bradley Whitford, Paul Walter Hauser, Craig Robison and Peter Stormare. This week, it was announced that Apa and Carson had joined the project as its two leads.

Songbird is heavily influenced by the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Adam Mason, the film was one of the first to start shooting as the world began re-opening from lockdown. Production had been previously shut down by the labor union SAG-AFTRA, but after instituting new safety protocols, the project was allowed to resume.

The movie currently does not have a set release date, but it’s safe to say that fans can hardly wait to watch Carson and Apa star together on the big screen. Hopefully, they will have their wishes answered soon.
