Harry Styles wore a multi-colored sweater once and unknowingly started a trend on TikTok that has not just fans, but world-renowned fashion designers, talking.

Over the years, Harry Styles has continued to prove that fashion has no boundaries. The singer-songwriter has worn everything from low-top Vans to vintage Mickey Mouse t-shirts to sparkly Gucci suits and has somehow managed to pull it all off.

When appearing on The Today Show this past February, Styles donned a patchwork style cardigan over a simple bumblebee t-shirt paired with flared Gucci jeans and his signature pearl necklace.

Fans quickly fell in love with the outfit, but more specifically the cardigan, of which was actually only worn during the soundcheck for his performance.

The color-block cardigan is a JW Anderson design and sells for almost $2,000 online.

As much as fans loved the cardigan (and Harry Styles in it), most were not willing to shell out that much money for a sweater. Instead, many resorted to making their own.

In the most DIY-fashion, fans started selling out red, yellow, green, orange, black, and blue yarn from craft stores as they embarked on knitting their Harry Styles-inspired cardigan.

Fans documented their knitting journeys on TikTok, showcasing the process in one or more videos until they got to the finished product: a cozy, knock-off JW Anderson patchwork sweater.

JW Anderson caught wind of this trend as it blew up online this month and decided to share the exact pattern used and a breakdown of instructions on how to replicate the cardigan Harry Styles wore at a performance rehearsal months ago.

“I am so impressed and incredibly humbled by this trend and everyone knitting the cardigan. I really wanted to show our appreciation so we are sharing the pattern with everyone. Keep it up,” the designer, Jonathan, wrote online with a link to the cardigan design handbook.

The instructions for the cardigan are intricate and detailed, but still have fans who have never picked up a knitting needle before clearing their schedule to make it.

One fan even used leftover yarn from her sweater to make another one for her dog. Jonathan Anderson saw that too and loved this trend even more.

Harry Styles is clearly much more than a musician – he is an actor, a producer, a model, and the inspiration behind one of the biggest TikTok trends of the summer.
