After years of crafting some of our fondest Weekend Update memories, Saturday Night Live head writer Colin Jost is taking a more intimate approach to making us laugh.

On July 14th, Jost released his first book, A Very Punchable Face: A Memoir, through the Crown Publishing Group. The memoir delivers anecdotes from the author’s life through his signature tongue-in-cheek wit. The tales that bind this book aren’t merely stories from the SNL ranks. Ever wondered what it’s like to watch a group of paramedics perform CPR on a dead raccoon? Or what it’s like to be mauled by a group of angry, potato salad-wielding teenagers? By some outlandish force of the cosmos, Jost has experienced both of these things. And he’s happy to let us in on the laughs.

A Very Punchable Face is not Jost’s first foray into writing outside of the television and film industry. Jost previously penned pieces for The New Yorker and the Staten Island Advance. Jost also served as President of the legendary Harvard Lampoon prior to being hired at SNL.

Humor and acerbic witticisms aside, Jost was not afraid to get personal while penning this memoir. In a more intimate tale, Jost candidly shares the emotional experience of his mother serving as a first responder when the Twin Towers collapsed. Punchable Face also touches upon the details of Jost’s much-talked-about romance with famed fiancee Scarlett Johansson.

A Very Punchable Face: A Memoir is a must for your summer reading library. Be sure to pick up a copy and follow Jost’s socials for more updates and laughs.
