Keke Palmer Addresses Cancellation Rumors Regarding ‘Strahan, Sara and Keke’
Keke Palmer calls the rumor that her talk show, Strahan, Sara and Keke, was canceled due to her activism a “dangerous message.”
Palmer took to social media to clarify why Strahan, Sara and Keke was replaced by GMA 3: What You Need to Know in March. She explained that although she initially ignored the rumors that ABC canceled her show in direct response to her activism, she eventually realized that her silence spread the false idea that fans should not be vocal about racial justice for fear of occupational repercussions. Palmer stressed that her relationship with ABC is evolving, not ending and that we should all speak up against injustice and equality.
“I want to speak on this simply because I hate the narrative that if you speak your mind as a Black person that you will in some way be punished,” wrote Palmer in a recent Instagram post. “I have seen this going around and at first I ignored [it] but in this climate, I realized this is a dangerous message to send to our generation and the generation coming up.”
Strahan, Sara and Keke was taken off the air in March and replaced with Pandemic: What You Need to Know, a daily coronavirus report that was initially a two-week experiment. Due to the show’s success, other topics in the news cycle were added, and it evolved into GMA 3. GMA 3 is co-anchored by Michael Strahan and Sara Haines, who co-hosted alongside Palmer in Strahan, Sarah and Keke.
“When I see such fear-mongering comments I want to speak out so that no one ever feels or thinks that speaking out will cost them their job,” wrote Palmer in a recent Instagram post. “I’m sure it can and has before, but let’s also recognize when it has not. That way more of us with our own minds speak out against any injustices we see. Trust me, walking in my truth has always made my blessings overflow and connect to those that are like-minded and not with those that are not.”
Palmer recently released the music video to her new song “Snack,” a feel-good summer jam.
