The NWSL Is Getting the Star Treatment as Hollywood Actresses Support a New L.A. Team
Despite their overall success, female soccer players are yet to receive the same support as their male counterparts.
Some of Hollywood’s biggest names have formed an investment group to support a new LA team. Leading the group are Natalie Portman, America Ferreira, Eva Longoria, and Jennifer Garner, who will use their platforms to ensure players receive the necessary resources. Fourteen former soccer legends and tennis star Serena Williams will also join the ranks, alongside Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian.
This will be the first California-based team to enter the NWSL and while the venue is currently undecided, there’s perhaps a team name in the pipeline since the A-Listers have dubbed themselves ‘Angel City’.

Women’s soccer has seen a climb in popularity over recent years, with Forbes reporting that “last season saw a 22% increase in NWSL attendance.” While the figures are promising, there’s still some way to go before women’s soccer receives the exposure it deserves. The next soccer league is due to start in 2022.
This is the kind of girl power content the world needs right now ❤️💙🇺🇸⚽️ https://t.co/1iWYZNPeIy
