Tyler Perry purchased 1,000 $50 Kroger supermarket gift cards and donated them to the Atlanta police department, to be given to the residents of Atlanta.

Tyler Perry’s intention was to not only to give back to the community but to also help lessen the divide between the Atlanta Police Department and Atlanta locals.

“This is about the community that I love, that I live in and work in,” Perry said in a statement to ABC news. “This is about good people who are in need of a hand up not a hand out.”

Each gift card was hand-delivered door to door personally by Atlanta PD on Thursday, July 16.

“This is about the good police officers who do their job well every day some of which are my personal friends,” he told ABC. “This is about trying to bridge unity in a city that adopted me and held me up high enough to reach my own branch on the tree of success.”

Tyler Perry credits Atlanta for helping him catch his “big break,” and proclaimed his love for the city and people of Atlanta.

This good deed is one of many for Tyler these past few months.  Tyler offered to cover the funeral costs of Rayshard Brooks, a victim of police brutality in Atlanta, Georgia, in June. He also supported the cost of Secoriea Turner’s services, an 8-year-old who was fatally shot in the first week of July. In addition, he purchased groceries for seniors at more than 70 different supermarkets amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tyler Perry’s work does not go unnoticed nor underappreciated. Perry is acting as a positive force during our world’s current climate.
