Breonna Taylor’s Petition Surpasses 10 Million Signatures, Becoming the Second Largest in ‘Change.org’ History
It has been more than four months since the 26-year-old’s tragic death, and people are not backing down from the fight for justice on her behalf.
The petition on Change.org calling for racial justice for the late Breonna Taylor has recently exceeded 10 million signatures. This marks the second largest petition in the history of the platform following the one for George Floyd, which currently has 19.2 million signatures.
On March 13, 2020, 26-year-old EMT was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department’s John Mattingly, Brett Hankison, Myles Cosgrove, and Joshua Jaynes. The officers had entered the wrong home with a no-knock search warrant looking for two people suspected of selling drugs. Taylor died after more than 20 rounds were shot inside her apartment.
The petition outlines the tragic incident, followed by four demands calling for those involved in Taylor’s death to be charged and her family to be paid for their loss. It also demands a special prosecutor to investigate the LMPD and the abolishment of no-knock warrants.
The petition has also inspired many celebrities to use their influence to take action. Among them is Beyoncé, who showed her support for Taylor and her family with an open letter to Kentucky’s attorney general demanding justice.
