Gabby Barrett’s Debut Song ‘I Hope’ Lands Top Spot on Billboard Hot Country Charts
Gabby Barrett is the first female to have her debut song land in the number one spot on the Billboard Hot Country Charts since Carrie Underwood’s “Jesus Take The Wheel” in 2006.
Barrett released her debut single, “I Hope,” in July of 2019. The song is about a woman who hopes that her cheater ex-boyfriend finds the girl of his dreams only for the girl to cheat on him. This vengeful spirited anthem has become a favorite by many listeners.
Her single is the first song on her debut album Goldmine, which was released in June of 2020. This debut album also rose to success, breaking the record for the most first-week streams for a debut album by a country artist ever in history. Since Underwood’s debut single in 2006, no other female has achieved this until Barrett in 2020. An interesting note is that both country artists rose to fame on Americal Idol. Underwood was the season four winner and Barrett placed 3rd in the sixteenth season.
“I Hope” caught the attention of Charlie Puth and intrigued him to create a remix of the song and include his vocals. Puth contacted Barrett via Instagram about the idea, and now the powerful post-breakup song can be understood from not only the girl’s perspective, but the guy’s as well.
