On July 22, 2020, One Direction posted on their Instagram and Twitter accounts for the first time since 2016 and 2018.

One Direction, or 1D, is an English-Irish pop boy band. It was formed in 2010 and consisted of five members: Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, and Liam Payne. In March of 2015, Malik left the band, and in the same year, One Direction went on a hiatus for an indefinite amount of time. After the end of their tour in October of 2015, the members decided not to renew their contract, and each group member went on to pursue individual musical projects.

At the end of 2016, Payne revealed that he is confident that One Direction will get back together in his tweet. In July of 2020, Payne posted a TikTok, in which it appeared as if he called Styles through FaceTime. However, Styles remained static, and many fans assumed that Payne was either trolling the fans or that the TikTok contained a hidden message that hinted at 1D’s potential reunion. On July 23, on the day of One Direction’s anniversary, One Direction will launch an immersive fan experience website called 10 Years of One Direction.

In only nine hours, One Direction’s Instagram post became their most-liked post ever and has already reached almost six million likes. The #10YearsOfOneDirection hashtag quickly gained nearly 2 million retweets, and their anniversary tease tweet generated close to 2 million likes on Twitter. On July 22, iHeartRadioCA also plans to release a “Celebrate 10 Years of One Direction with Unseen Moments” exclusive compilation.

However, other fans were smart to suggest that it is likely that 1D will release a music video for their 2015 song, “Infinity,” as part of their ten-year anniversary surprise.

While only time will tell what One Direction prepared for their most avid fans, we are eager to learn how the iconic boy band will celebrate their anniversary.
