Yara Shahidi and Her Mom Are the Dynamic Duo Behind ABC’s New Production Company
Yara Shahidi is yet again making waves in the entertainment industry as she launches a new production company with her mom.
Taking to Instagram, the actress announced she’s joined forces with her mom Kerri to create a new production company called 7th Sun. Having signed an overall deal with ABC, the dynamic duo will aim to uplift underrepresented voices through content centering upon “themes of history, heritage, culture, and joy.”
The company will be helmed by the Shahidi women, with veteran producer Lajoie St. George joining the ranks as an executive mentor. The founding of 7th Sun is an important milestone for a stronger female direction in Hollywood but is also a historic achievement to Yara’s name since she’s the youngest ever producer working for ABC.
Yara rose to fame through her role as Zoey Johnson in the highly popular sitcom Grown-ish. The show has been an amazing showcase of Yara’s talent and has received critical acclaim with Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. Kenya Barris, who directed Grown-ish, was quick to share praise of this latest venture, describing the actress as “insanely talented, unreasonably smart and hardworking beyond compare.”
I could always tell something big was coming for her. She is a very intelligent young woman. I wish her so much more success in her future endeavors as well 🙌🏾🙌🏾💜💜Congratulations @YaraShahidi!!!

Yara has also asserted her presence as a changemaker for disadvantaged groups, working tirelessly as a trailblazer of social activism over the years. Among her work is the establishment of Yara’s Club, an online mentoring initiative that aims to alleviate poverty through the education of women.
Yara is a force for good on and off-screen and we’re sure 7th Sun will bring us some new, compelling content. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this exciting new project.
