Selena Gomez’s beauty brand announced a new charity called the Rare Impact Fund, reminding us that the conversation on mental health never stops- even on Selena’s birthday.

Rare Beauty announced the news in a powerful Instagram post that outlined their pledge to raise $100 million over the next 10 years. Although the cosmetics line was only founded in February, they’re already making their mark as a force for good in the beauty world by donating 1% of every sale to the Rare Impact Fund.

Our goal with the Rare Impact Fund is to raise an ambitious $100 million over the next 10 years to help increase access to mental health resources. How? Starting with our very first sale, 1% of annual Rare Beauty sales will go directly to the Rare Impact Fund. But that’s not all. We’re committed to raising funds with numerous philanthropic partners to reach our goal. The Rare Impact Fund will help support the local, national, and global organizations that have a direct impact on the well-being of this amazing community. Together, we are better, and because we know we can’t do this alone, we’ve established the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council comprised of leading mental health experts and professionals with lived experience to help steer our impact efforts. The money will be used to improve access to mental health services in deprived communities, carrying forward a message of love and equitable support. It’s an initiative built upon Rare Beauty’s goal to make people feel “more connected to one another and less alone in the world”, a message we can all get behind.

Selena has been a proud advocate for mental health services over the years, her candid conversations and open support helping publicize the importance of outlets for positive mindfulness. Her empowering efforts have been recognized by many with awards like the 2019 McClean Award and she’s keeping the momentum going. Launching alongside the Rare Impact Fund is the Rare Beauty Mental Health Council, a panel of advisers from leading universities and companies striving to facilitate mental health discussions.

In these unprecedented times, it’s more important than ever to take time for your mind. There are so many ways of supporting mental health and you can start by showing some love for the Rare Impact Fund, as well as continuing to check in on those around you.
