The WNBA has launched a social justice council to support Black Lives Matter.

Player Angel McCoughtry from the Las Vegas Aces tweeted a picture with Breonna Taylor’s name on her jersey earlier this year. After that, the WNBA announced they would “seek justice for the women and girls, including Sandra Bland, Breonna Taylor, Vanessa Guillen, and many more who have been the forgotten victims of police brutality and racial violence.” The WNBA players said, “we are dedicating this season to Breonna Taylor. ” Player Layshia Clarendon from New York Liberty said their fight is also to support, “Black women who are so often forgotten in this fight for justice, who do not have people marching in the streets for them.”

From now on players will wear Nike warm-up t-shirt with: “Black Lives Matter” on the front and “Say Her Name” in the back, they will also have the opportunity to choose between 29 pre-approved quotes Black Lives Matter; Say Their Names; Vote; I Can’t Breathe; Justice; Peace; Equality; Freedom; Enough; Power to the People; Justice Now; Say Her Name; Sí Se Puede (Yes We Can); Liberation; See Us; Hear Us; Respect Us; Love Us; Listen; Listen to Us; Stand Up; Ally; Anti-Racist; I Am A Man; Speak Up; How Many More; Group Economics; Education Reform; and Mentor.

The WNBA season began on Saturday ,July 25 at the IMG Academy, where all matches will be played. The words “Black Lives Matter” will also appear, here. We are thrilled to see a major sports league supporting this fight and especially women, who are so often forgotten and need support.
