Rihanna revealed to Entertainment Tonight’s Rachel Smith that her highly-anticipated album, R9, is forthcoming.

Rihanna established to ET that she is constantly “writing new music.”

“I am always working on music and when I am ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out. And you’re not going to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it. I’m not just gonna put it out just because people are waiting. It’s taken this long, I’m gonna make it worth it,” said Rihanna to ET.

The star hasn’t released new music since 2016 when Rihanna dropped her album, ‘Anti.’ Rihanna then decided to dive into the beauty industry, launching the incredibly popular ‘Fenty Beauty’ makeup line and her soon to come, ‘Fenty Skin’ skin-care line. Rihanna got candid about her success, mentioning that it is crazy to think it has been a decade since she debuted hit track  Pon-De-Replay in 2005. While taking a trip down memory lane, she also reflected on the 10-year-anniversary of singles Love the Way You Lie and What’s My Name.

“I’m also really grateful to still be here and being able to expand into other ventures. I’m grateful. It’s been fun and I can’t even complain,” Rihanna continued.

Rihanna has yet to announce a specific date for when she plans to release her next music project. However, she hinted to British Vogue during their 2020 issue, on what genre of music she plans to put out.

“I don’t want my albums to feel like themes…I feel like I have no boundaries. I’ve done everything – I’ve done all the hits, I’ve tried every genre – now I’m just, I’m wide open. I can make anything that I want,” said Rihanna in an interview with British Vogue. In the same interview, she also made mention of a potential reggae-inspired album in the future.

Keep an eye out for R9 because as Rihanna stated, it’s “coming sooner than you think.” To watch the full interview of Rihanna and ET’s Rachel Smith, click here.
