Disclosure Released Their Newest Song, ‘Douha (Mali Mali),’ Featuring Fatoumata Diawara
On July 29, 2020, Disclosure premiered their newest song, “Douha (Mali Mali)” on YouTube.
Disclosure is an electronic music duo, consisting of two English brothers, Howard and Guy Lawrence. Previously, they had multiple prominent musical hits, such as “Latch,” “Help Me Lose My Mind,” and “Magnets,” all of which have crossed 100 million views on YouTube. Disclosure’s third album, Energy, will be released on August 28, 2020, and it will come in two versions, standard and deluxe. “Douha (Mali Mali)” is one of the 20 tracks in Energy.

For “Douha (Mali Mali),” Disclosure collaborated with Fatoumata Diawara, a Malian singer-songwriter and actress. In 2019, Diawara was nominated for two Grammy Awards in Best World Music Album and Dance Recording. In May of 2018, Fatoumata Diawara collaborated with Disclosure for the first time on their track, “Ultimatum,” which gained 8 million views on YouTube.

In the music video for “Douha (Mali Mali),” multiple dancers, including Diawara, are seen dancing in various landscapes. Some are shown on the roof of a building in the heart of New York, and others dance in the green fields of Italy and South Africa. In the video, nature represents the love for one’s homeland, and the dancers symbolize people’s collective strength and perseverance during the pandemic. The dancing was also recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic and as a health precaution, it was filmed with drones.

“Douha (Mali Mali)” contains a joyful melody that almost guarantees to swoop the listener off their feet and provide them with a positive outlook on life. Diawara enjoys singing in Bambara, one of the thirteen national and commonly spoken languages in Mali.
