Bella Hadid is calling on the fashion industry to do better.

Like many other celebrities and social media influencers, the model has been using her platform to raise awareness about the Black Lives Matter movement. In the early stages of its resurgence, Hadid took to Instagram to tell fans she has been “Listening. Understanding. Educating… Making calls to demand justice. Donating.”

Today I will be standing with and donating to @NAACP_LDF, one of America’s oldest civil rights law organizations, which fights for police reform every day. “Partial justice is not justice at all–until all of the officers involved in the brutal murder of George Floyd are arrested, we will keep the pressure on.”💪🏿💪🏾💪🏽 I’ve been sitting here listening. Understanding. Educating myself . Making calls to demand justice. Donating. And reaching out to friends just in case they feel hurt or lost this week. If you are not standing in solidarity with the black community TODAY and EVERYDAY. Please unfollow me. Black lives matter…Black voices matter and the black community matters

In a recent interview with Elle magazine, Hadid opened up about the responsibility she has to younger people who look up to her as a role model: “I have so much responsibility to use my platform for good, especially as I get older. I want young girls and boys to know that it is okay to use your voice and demand justice for what is important to you. I want them to know it’s okay to be empathetic and gentle but to be strong and speak your truth at the same time.”

Hadid also spoke out about where she believes the fashion industry needs to change in terms of diversity: “Going into the next season, my fear is having to see another one of my Black girlfriends get her hair burned by a hair straightener, or do her own makeup because the makeup artist hasn’t been trained to work with all different skin types.” She also pointed out the hypocrisy of the fashion industry by contrasting its ideal of expression and individuality with the reality of how it discriminates because of those differences.

But even though the world of fashion may currently be under scrutiny for its lack of inclusion, Bella Hadid has found a way to use its artform for good. The collaboration between the model and Chrome Hearts has given her the opportunity to host an auction that features pieces she made herself at home. All of the proceeds from the event have been promised to go to organizations, such as Know Your Rights Camp and Feeding America, that have been actively supporting the Black community.

Hi 🧿💙🧿I can’t wait to tell you about a project I started at the beginning of quarantine … I’ll be auctioning a whole bunch of limited edition @chromeheartsxbella pieces made by me @ home during my time alone … without too much detail … long story short …. my family at @chromeheartsofficial and I are promising that 100% of proceeds are going to @yourrightscamp , @feedingamerica and a few smaller organizations (that I will name at a later time) all actively raising up and supporting the Black community, each in different and special ways to further the liberation of Black people worldwide … making these pieces meant and means so much to me and I’m grateful to @laurielynnstark @richardstarkchromehearts and @mattyboy90 for allowing me to send the profits to where they are most needed …so i hope you enjoy & love it all as much I enjoyed making it for you . can’t wait to show you 🥺
