Auli’i Cravalho plays musically-inclined high school student Amber Appleton in All Together Now, to be released on Netflix on August 28th.

The film is based on the novel Sorta Like a Rockstar by Matthew Quick, who also wrote the screenplay for All Together Now. The film tells the story of Amber, who spends her time juggling drama club, working at a donut shop, and volunteering at a retirement center. Amber is raised by her single mother Becky, played by Justina Machado, and desperately wants to attend Carnegie Mellon to study music. Actress Carol Burnett plays a resident at the retirement community who Amber forms a special bond with.

This is Cravalho’s first live-action film role, with her previous credits including the animated Disney film Moana and the NBC musical drama television show Rise

Cravalho has been vocal about the Black Lives Matter movement on social media, recently encouraging followers to “be active in the content you see.” She recommended three accounts to follow and asked followers to share their favorite black-owned accounts in the comments section. Cravalho spotlighted Thandiwe Abdullah (@thandiweabudulla), a 16-year-old activist and co-founder of the Black Lives Matter Youth Vanguard; Danielle Coke (@ohhappydani), an activist who curates resources and is currently fundraising for allyship posters in classrooms; and Minaa B (@minaa_b), a licensed therapist, author, speaker, writer, and wellness consultant.
