While promoting her new at-home cooking series, ‘Selena + Chef,’  Selena touched upon the topic of COVID-19 and opened up about her mental health amid quarantine.

During Warner Media’s virtual television press tour Selena described quarantine as a period of mixed emotions but later focused on the positives that came out of it.

“I think there’s been a lot of blessings in the breaking. It’s not easy for anyone to be walking through what we’re walking through. It’s not normal. It’s affecting people specifically with mental health. People who have never thought about things that they’re thinking about now. It’s confusing,” Selena told reporters at the WM virtual panel.

Selena disclosed that her positive support system, therapist, and optimism kept her grounded. Having a hopeful mindset led Selena to see both the world and herself differently. As Selena stated, “I’ve learned so much about myself. I’ve learned more about my country than I ever have from school or anything. So I’ve been very grateful for that as well.”

Selena explained that one of the reasons for creating Selena + Chef was to provide relief to both herself and viewers.

“I really thought this would be something lighthearted because I was getting, definitely, down. And I know that a lot’s going on. Of course, there are more important things going on, but this was an opportunity to make something that could make people smile,” Selena added.

Earlier this year, Selena took a break from social media and has recently begun posting again apologizing to her followers for her absence.

“I just think at the beginning of this year with everything going on it felt a little insensitive to post things that may be joyful or celebratory. It was really hard for me. I’ve taken the time to learn, truly learn about what’s going on and I continue to make that my priority. I just wanted to let you know that I love you guys and I miss you and there’s so many exciting things coming up that I can’t wait to share with all of you,” said Selena in an Instagram video.

In the same video, Selena first made mention of her upcoming HBO max cooking series and provided fans with a sneak peek on Tuesday, August 4th, via Twitter.

Thank you, Selena, for continuing to be a mental health advocate, and for striving to turn this dark time into a brighter one. Be sure to check out the Selena + Chef  trailer, here.
