Jason Derulo And More To Play Legendary Musicians In Upcoming Film ‘Spinning Gold’

Producer of Dreamgirls, Laurence Mark, is set to produce the upcoming film about Casablanca Records founder Neil Bogart titled Spinning Gold. 

Jason Derulo, Samuel L. Jackson, Kenan Thompson, and more, to play legendary musicians signed to the iconic record label during the 1970s.


The late great Neil Bogart founded record label Casablanca Records and flourished with artists such as KISS, Donna Summer, Village People, The Isley Brothers, and many more throughout his career. His story is written and directed by his son, Timothy Scott Bogart. The self-funded film is currently in post-production. “After it’s done, I will take it to studios that are right now looking at the returns on Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman,” Bogart released in a statement before the film began production in 2019.

Disco queen Donna Summer was reportedly going to make an appearance in the film and was to be portrayed by a top singer. According to imdb.com, the character does not appear to have made it to the final cut of the film. Other actors involved in the film include Jay Pharoah, Neil Patrick Harris, Michelle Monaghan, D.L. Hughley, and many more.

This project has been in the talks for quite some time. Justin Timberlake was previously attached to the project in 2013, with the lead role of Neil Bogart. In 2019, the project announced Tony-nominated Broadway star Jeremy Jordan replaced Timberlake for the role of Bogart.

Jason Derulo portrays Ron Isley of The Isley Brothers. The trio started their musical career in the 1950s with their hit single “Shout,” and went on to record a diverse range of music that spans over seven decades.
