Take a Look at the First Trailer for Netflix’s Upcoming Space Drama, ‘Away’
On August 10th, Netflix released the first trailer of their new series, Away, so get ready to add it to your binge-watch list.
Away tells the story of a group of astronauts tasked with a once-in-a-lifetime mission: Be the first to travel to Mars. They are led by Emma Green (played by Hilary Swank), an astronaut who leaves behind her husband Matt (Josh Charles) and daughter Lex (Talitha Bateman) to embark on the three-year-long journey. Midway through the mission, Matt has a stroke, leading to his hospitalization. Miles away from Earth, Emma struggles to stay focused on her job with the knowledge that her family needs her, while her other crew members also suffer from being away from their loved ones. Torn between their mission and their connections on Earth, the astronauts must somehow join forces to succeed and return home.

Actors Vivian Wu, Ato Essandoh, Mark Ivanir, and Ray Panthaki will join Swank in space as her fellow astronauts traveling to Mars. The show will premiere with a total of ten episodes.
Despite taking place in space, Away‘s gripping themes of separation from loved ones can feel all too real in today’s times. With the COVID-19 pandemic still forcing individuals to distance from each other for the sake of their own health, the show hopes to not only resonate with audiences but also perhaps even offer some hope.
“The idea of making the most important life decisions, but not being able to be with your husband or wife or child when doing it. The idea of being stuck in a tin can for months and months and not being able to step out in the world is suddenly resonating in a new way,” Away‘s executive producer Jason Katims shared with Deadline. “Most importantly, what I’m reminded of is that the show is about many things but at its core, it’s about the human spirit and more specifically when it’s tested, what it’s capable of.”
Make sure to watch Away on Netflix starting September 4th, and check out the trailer above.
