After months of protests and calls from celebrities like Oprah and Lebron James, Daniel Cameron, the Attorney General of Kentucky has met with the family of Breonna Taylor.

Taylor was a 26-year-old emergency medical technician who was murdered in her apartment on March 13. Louisville police officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankinson, and Myles Cosgrove were serving a “no-knock” narcotics warrant when Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker, who thought the out of uniform officers were intruders, exchanged gunfire. Taylor was shot eight times. Cries for justice have echoed for the last 5 months since the circumstances of the warrant were made public.

The intended targets of the warrant, one of which was Breonna’s ex-boyfriend, were selling narcotics from a house over 10 miles away from Taylor’s home. No drugs were found in the home Breonna shared with Kenneth Walker. Attorney-General Cameron has been highly criticized for his lack of response to the murder and for not charging the three officers involved. Cameron received backlash for publicly celebrating his engagement to his new fiancée, while the officers remained free. Details of the meeting with Tamika Palmer, Taylor’s mother, and other members of the family are still emerging, but reports state that AG Cameron went to express his condolences.

Taylor has become the latest face in the “Say Her Name” campaign for justice against police brutality, specifically against women of color, who often do not see as much publicity as men murdered by police. After the meeting, Taylor’s mother told Louisville Courier Journal, “We let him know how important it was for their office to get all the facts, to get the truth and to get justice for Breonna”.

We continue to keep the family in our hearts and continue to fight for justice for Breonna Taylor and the countless others who have lost their lives to police brutality. To find out how you can take action visit blacklivesmatter.com.
