Popular movie theater chain AMC will be offering tickets at just 15-cents on reopening day August 20.

You read it right, AMC has announced that they will be reopening two-thirds of their theaters by September 3, with 100 openings next Thursday, and tickets will be priced at only 15-cents. All US theaters closed back in March after concerns over COVID-19 began to grow.

AMC had plans to reopen sooner, but those plans got delayed several times as COVID-19 cases increased throughout the country. The remaining one-third of its theaters will be reopened once local governments deem it safe to do so.

AMC will call this reopening ‘100 Years of Movies: Movies in 2020 at 1920 prices.’ The low prices are being used to drive ticket sales as many are still leery of attending amidst the pandemic. They will also be offering $5 deals on snacks at their concession stands.

Of course, measures will be put in place to ensure the safety of all customers such as mask requirements, social distancing practices, enhanced cleaning of the theaters, and limited seating capacities. Even with these measures, many are still hesitant to attend and will continue to stay home.

Others, however, think it’s a great idea and are eager to go at the low rates. Even after opening day, AMC will be offering $5 tickets on older movies like Black Panther, Inception, and Back to the Future. These will stand in for newer releases since the majority of filming has been put on hold.
