Olivia Wilde to Direct Secret Marvel Project and Teases ‘Spider-Woman’
On Wednesday night, it was reported that Booksmart director Olivia Wilde closed a deal with Sony Pictures to direct and develop a secret female-led Marvel project.
Fans quickly began speculating if Wilde was taking the reigns on a Spider-Woman stand-alone film, as the previous portrayal of the beloved character has only been in cartoon form, most recently with Gwen Stacey in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse as Spider-Gwen.
Deadline revealed the exciting news and mentioned that the film will be written by Booksmart writer Katie Silberman with Amy Pascal producing. Rachel O’Connor will also join the project as an executive producer.
Wilde seemingly teased/possibly confirmed that her secret project would be a Spider-Woman focused film after she responded to Deadline’s tweet with a simple spider emoji.
