Megan Thee Stallion Calls for the Protection of Black Women by Telling Her Story
Rapper Megan Thee Stallion has broken her silence on the tragic shooting that took place in July, and spoke on the important topic of protecting Black women.
Originally little was known about the shooting that took place after a party in mid-July. The first story was that the rapper had cut her foot on some glass and a police helicopter video showed Megan limping with blood dripping from her feet while police surrounded the vehicle she was traveling in with three other people, including Rapper/Singer Tory Lanez. Despite swirling rumors, Megan was particularly silent about the events of the night. Though weeks later she did admit that she was shot in both of her feet, but would not say who shot her.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery.” Megan Thee Stallion revealed that she suffered gunshot wounds over the weekend. https://t.co/PhYIscHcwT

More than a month later, the story has come to light. This week Megan went on Instagram Live to tell the truth after accusing Lanez’s publicity team of lying to blogs about what happened. She explained that the rapper was the one who shot her, one bullet hitting one foot and fragments hitting the other after she had gotten out of the vehicle. She stated that everyone in the vehicle, not just her and Lanez, were in an argument and she left the truck, as she was only five minutes from home.
What was most heartbreaking about her story was the reason she shared for not coming forward sooner, or even going to the police. She felt that even though she was wronged by Lanez, she still felt the need to protect him, as a Black man in today’s hectic racial climate.
“He shot me and I still tried to protect him because the police be killing us” – @theestallion
This has me in TEARS. My god. Black women WHEW! We cant even fight for our own lives w/o feeling like we have to protect the lives of the people who commit acts of violence against us

She feared that if she told authorities that there was a gun in vehicle full of Black people, that they all could have been at risk for brutality from “aggressive” police officers. Megan was visibly angry during the livestream, as she felt that despite the fact that she protected Lanez, no one was protecting her as Black woman who had been assaulted. For weeks, social media users had accused Megan of lying about the extent of her injuries and even insinuated that she had provoked Lanez to shoot her by being violent herself.
Imagine a Black woman being shot and she still had the compassion to try to save a life from being shot by the police — only for them to turn around and later lie to the press about her.
Tory Lanez is done.
Y’all owe Megan Thee Stallion all of her roses and apologies NOW.

Megan denied all the false claims, stating that she was not shot for “no reason,” which is why Lanez has not made a statement to defend himself.
Many Twitter users showed their support for the rapper and the narrative that too often Black women’s trauma goes unnoticed or is blatantly ignored. It has also been stressed how unfortunate it is that Megan, and other women who have been attacked, must go through so much just to be believed.
We hope that Megan’s story will encourage other victims to speak up so that they can get justice and are so grateful for Megan’s bravery when it came to telling her story.
