Bad Bunny Debuts a New Look as He Urges Young Puerto Ricans to Vote

Reggaeton star Bad Bunny broke his three-month social media hiatus to encourage the young people of Puerto Rico to register to vote and cast their ballot in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
On Thursday the Puerto Rican rapper finally posted on social media encouraging Puerto Rican youth to vote for their new governor this November. He took a three-month-long break from social media after tweeting “bye, me fui” or “bye, I left” back in May, which is also the title of a song from his recent surprise album LAS QUE NO IBAN A SALIR.
Fans of Bad Bunny have been wondering what happened and why he suddenly disappeared off of social media after having a heavy presence on both Instagram and Twitter. Despite the reason, they’re happy that one of Puerto Rico’s biggest musicians is back with a new look and advocating for a good cause.

Bad Bunny, who’s known for his out-of-the-box fashion sense and everchanging hairdos, posted a photo of himself with long hair and a thicker mustache and another of his Puerto Rican voter’s ID card. Even though Puerto Rico is a US territory, Puerto Ricans are not eligible to vote in the country’s presidential elections, something that has been a controversial topic for years.
Bad Bunny registering to vote—and telling us to do it too—is my new favorite perreo bop. https://t.co/OGfQQefbYO

Bad Bunny is no stranger to activism. He was photographed in the streets of Puerto Rico last summer protesting against then corrupt governor Ricardo Rosselló, who stepped down shortly after.
Early this year he paid tribute to Alexa Negrón Luciano, a Puerto Rican transgender woman who was brutally murdered, by wearing a T-shirt displaying her name during his The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon performance. He also dedicated his “Yo Perreo Sola” music video to her by dressing as a woman to bring awareness to transgender rights.
Some are criticizing Bad Bunny for coming back to speak on voting, but staying silent on the Black Lives Matter movement and the recent protests that have been occurring throughout the world considering he’s always been vocal about social justice issues, especially within the Latinx community.
ok but where were you when we needed you to speak on BLM

Regardless of your thoughts, there’s no denying that Bad Bunny is serious about bettering his native island, and he isn’t afraid to use his platform to shed light on important issues. To register to vote and get more information about voting in your area, you can visit vote.org.
