Big Sean will be dropping his long-awaited fifth album ‘Detroit 2’ on September 4.

It’s been eight years since the rapper released his well-received 2012 mixtape, Detroit. The highly-anticipated new album, Detroit 2, is predicted to be a sequel to the previous mixtape. This will be his first album since the release of his 2017 albums, I Decided, and his collaborative album with Metro Boomin, Double or Nothing.

There are a lot of big names already linked to Detroit 2. It’s being executively produced by Kanye West, Hit-Boy and Big Sean himself. Although other credits haven’t been released yet, it has been rumored that Drake, Lizzo, Future, Young Thug and Nipsey Hussle will be featured on the album.

Last year, the rapper opened up on needing to take a break from the spotlight. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he stated “You come to a point in life where you realize that the car, the house, whatever it is that you thought you wanted, was just a temporary fix.” he expressed that what he was truly searching for was “the fulfillment only your heart and being passionate can give you.”

Detroit 2, is inspired by Sean’s hometown and the music that inspired him growing up. In the album announcement video, Sean can be heard saying “Detroit to me is home, but I feel like it’s more than just a city, it’s for real a mentality.”
