Viola Davis has turned heads with her posts about the double standards of police brutality.

On Sunday, August 23, an unarmed African American, Jacob Blake, was tragically shot seven times. Viola Davis, like many other celebrities, are using their platforms to speak out on the matter. In the past, Davis has been unapologetic in expressing her thoughts, and recently we have seen her continue to do so with her head held high and her hand reaching out for anyone to join.

Davis created an Instagram post detailing exactly how she feels about the recent shootings and the racial discrimination of Black men and women in America. She captioned her post by saying, “I know my worth and refuse to have a knee placed on my or my people’s neck!! I’m speaking up and out!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!! VOTE!!”

With the current political climate, it is important to raise important questions and talk about the problems that affect so many people. Systemic racism continues to be a problem and by sharing information and her personal opinion on the matter it allows other people to educate themselves about what is going on.

In light of recent events, Davis has been an inspiration to many and calls out the weaker spots in the system. She refuses to back down because she acknowledges that she is a role model for so many people. Davis continuously shares her opinion about the importance of voting in the upcoming election stating that every voice matters. In another recent Instagram post, she calls out the double standards we have seen between the way that the police force handles matters with White people compared to the way they treat BIPOC.
