Universal Pictures’ adaption of the musical Dear Evan Hansen has just added Amy Adams to their star-studded cast.

Universal, which recently announced the casting of Amandla Stenberg, has revealed that Adams will be portraying Cynthia Murphy, the mother of Zoe and Connor Murphy. Booksmart‘s Kaitlyn Dever is set to play Adam’s on-screen daughter, Zoe.

Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being a Wallflower) is directing the project and it will be written by Steven Levenson, who wrote the book for the stage musical.

Ben Platt, who played the role of Evan Hansen in the original broadway cast, is also rumored to be reprising his role for the film. Dear Evan Hansen is a Tony-winning production, bringing in a total of six of the prestigious awards in 2017.

Adams, who is best known for her outstanding performance in 2016’s Arrival, is not a stranger to the musical world. In 2007, the actress appeared in the Disney musical movie Enchanted and even performed a few songs for the role.

Fans of the musical have been keeping an eye out for casting announcements, and Adams quickly rose to the top of Twitter’s trending topics as soon as the news was published.

Lovers of the musical are sharing their amazing reactions to Adams’ casting.
